Men
Short Programs
Group
1:
1. Serov - RUS
Elements: 3a-3t, 3lutz (maybe a bit 2 footed), spins, spread eagle
into 2 a, sit spi,, camel combinatio, sloppy step sequence.
I didn't like him at all, since he was scary in all his elements,
especially the spins. He may have gotten deductions on his step
sequence since they were not complete in my eyes.
2. Vidrai - HUN
He fell on 4t, did 3a-2t, 3 lutz (returned on 2 feet at the landing).
All his other elements were great, especially the spins and the
step sequences that are really original and modern.
Sad he fell, and that he doesn't have top speed.
3. Jeannette - FRA
He did 3a-3t (with steps between since the axel was returned),
no steps into 3 lutz, his trademarks spins as usual, an ok step
sequence, wich may lack difficulty in the steps (covered by his
arm movements) into 2a, a *small* eagle into his sit spin combination.
At first, I didn't like this program, but it is now growing on
me. It's better live than on TV thought. He has an interesting
and modern choreography as susual, and it was nice to see Men
had better ideas than the ladies who did all the same programs
nearly...
4. Yagudin - RUS
There was Yagudin and the rest. And his short program was awesome
thought I didn't like the music at all.
Stiff landing on th e4t-3t which was near the board, 3 axel from
steps, nice sit spin, step seq with a lot of speed that seemed
to lack in the beginning, 3 lutz out of steps too, step sequence
with two spins combination in between.
He lacked speed in the beginning but produced the quad triple
without any problems. Amazing really.
5. Restencourt - FRA
Well I think this program is his best so far, loved the matrix
theme.
He did 3a-3t, 3lutz from steps a bit shaky maybe, a baaaaaaaad
camel position and another one not centered at all. His steps
sequences were not complete at all, and the referee came later
to tell M. Brunet about it. His last spins were ok, but he has
zero speed into them, a la candeloro.
I think he needs to work more on expression if he ever wants to
make a world podium.
6. Danilchenko - UKR
He poped his 3 a, did put in the 3 lutz from some footwork, his
spins were not great as well as his steps, 2 a.
He bored me to death really. I had to ask Ben to wake me up a
bit at the end of his skate.
Group 2:
1. Okazaki - JPN
He had the best costume of the night, really simple lookin', and
his choreography is very candeloro-ish.
He did 3a-2t, 3lutz, 2a from steps, and had good spins and choreo.
Maybe a bit slow compared to the other men.
2. Jahnke - USA
Well I loved him. He has this north american ice touch that makes
you try to hear his edges when he skates. I loved his Take Five
choreography.
He did 2a, 3z-2t, 3f, and had great spins and steps and connecting
moves.
So sad he hasn't got that damn triple axel !
3. Kostin - LAT
He bored me to death too, so you might have a look at Ben's review
since I didn't take any notes about him.
4. Monnier - FRA
He has an original program on pan flutes. He put his hand on 3a-2t,
3flip without steps before it, good spins, ok steps into 2a, a
very nice spin, a diag step sequence into a jump spin.
He finished 3 seconds after his music stopped.
What was funny is that he was in the corridor, just 3 minutes
before the warm up, without his skates, and that he was not aware
he had to get prepared. Really relaxed then , but he put the pressures
on himself after that and was not happy with his skate at all
(you could hear him allright).
5. Han - PRK
BORING! Bad music, bad choreography, good elements ... I didn't
take notes on him either !
6. Meier - SWI
That was a complete mess :-( He fell on his 3 axel and went
downhill afterwards.
Sad because he is a nice skater to watch after all.
Placements
were ok for me, thought I would have put Stan in front of Vincent.
